Our First Major Publication Feature: ESSENCE!

Big things are happening for us lately!

First we win Fleurotica "Best In Show" and now we are featured in the May 2011 issue of ESSENCE! The May issue of ESSENCE Work & Wealth section focuses on making money with your girlfriends. About two months ago ESSENCE announced on Twitter they were looking for groups of girlfriends who have started money clubs and businesses together. Considering the trio behind August Bloom have known each other since high school, it only seemed fitting for our "socialista extraodonaire", Ruckiya, to reach out to them after seeing the tweet. Soon after we were interviewing with Tamara of ESSENCE about our business. We left the interview stoked, but it was no guarantee they would use our story. We didn't even know we would be featured until the week of the magazine's distribution!

Check us out on page 115. We must say Tamara did a great job with the article.

Best in Show

Though we've toyed with the idea of starting a blog since the inception of our website, no moment before had been moving enough to push us out of our procrastination mode. But the time has arrived good people, a happening so absolutely blog-worthy, that we just had to do it. Here you have it folks; the official launch of the August Bloom style Blog...a place for things that are "Stylishly in Bloom". We think you'd all agree, our Best in Show win qualifies...

On March 25, 2001 we participated in the Garfield Park Conservatory's Fleurotica 2011, where Chicago's best floral designers created garments made of fresh floral materials. We created two floral designs; "Peacock Blue", a high fashion cocktail dress made of blue orchids, yellow rose petals and peacock feathers; and "Geisha Bride", a floor length geisha inspired bridal kimono made of red rose petals and white pompons, and an oversized obi made of green ti leaves. Our "Geisha Bride" design was dedicated to the people of Japan.

We worked hard for days on our garments and our hard work paid off because we won BEST IN SHOW out of dozens of designs for our "Geisha Bride".

This is only the beginning of our our adventure with "All Things Stylishly in Bloom"
